Did you know? The Easter Island Statues have bodies:
Easter Island Statue Project
The Easter Island Statue Project (EISP) is a private research program and archive created by Jo Anne Van Tilburg, Principle Investigator and EISP founder and director, with Cristián Arévalo Pakarati, Rapa Nui artist and co-director of EISP. The profound and immediate need for conservation actions on the moai became apparent over the course of more than 20 years of subjective observation and field experience acquired by us during our island-wide archaeological survey, which was conducted in association with our Chilean and Rapa Nui colleagues.

really? no one ever thought of digging deeper?
Reblogging just cause this always makes me go “huh. well I’ll be.”
I figured people had thought about that decades ago, and, I dunno, tipped over a moai? Found nothing? Never really occurred to me that we’d never dug down…
This is awesome though! Look, they have glyphs on them! That could tell us more about the Rapa Nui civilization!
Wow!!!
Also, why are they all buried up to their shoulders?? Was this accidental or purposefully done??

I just donated a few quid to this old guy whose business was destroyed by looters. If you can spare a couple of pounds too, please do!
Help Wanted of the Day: 89-year-old Aaron Biber has been cutting hair in Tottenham for decades.
Last year, Aaron lost his wife. This year, he lost his business. Rioters ransacked his barbershop, smashed windows, and stole hairdryers. “I will probably have to close because I haven’t got insurance and I can’t afford the repairs,” Aaron says.
“Not so fast,” responds the Internet. A website has been launched to help Aaron fix his shop. So far nearly £17,000 have been donated.

It’s great to see people taking some positive action to help reverse some of the damage done by the rioters this week. It doesn’t take much for us to donate a few pounds, but between us we can make a real difference.
As I mentioned a while ago, I’ve recently moved house, which has been chaotic, to say the least. But I’ve powered through the unpacking and the painting and the dealing with broken furniture, cleaning the kitchen (my new housemates are all boys) and not being able to find enough clean socks. There’s still plenty of work to be done sorting through the last load of bags and boxes and making sure I’m happy with where everything lives, but I’m organised enough that I’m starting to turn my attention with the décor of my room. Which means I’m spending my spare time searching market stalls and charity shops and trying to decide what I want covering my (newly painted) magnolia walls! (The landlords told me I could paint my room any colour I liked as long as it was in the pastel range and somewhere between white and yellow. Helpful.) So I’m going to spend the next few weeks obsessing about home decorations.
Sadly this is not my room. But isn’t it awesome??

good:
Grist posted this piece from designer Max Temkin, and we felt it was worth sharing because we’re right in the thick of our waste less 30 Day GOOD Challenge.
Take that, plastic spoons, you jerks.
This. Exactly.
